1Mission 1 Million! Getting to the Heart of Stroke

SRABC needs your support!!! Please vote for our project by going to our page at www.heartofstroke.com/strokerecoverybc

After careful review by a global Expert Panel, SRABC’s project proposal has been selected for voting as part of the 1 Mission 1 Million – Getting to the Heart of Stroke global atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke disease awareness program!

This global program will provide up $1.4 million worldwide for innovative projects designed to prevent as many as one million AF-related strokes and close the gap in patients’ understanding of AF and its link to stroke.

With enough votes, SRABC could be awarded $100,000 for our proposal to develop multilingual educational materials which:

  • Explain how atrial fibrillation causes stroke
  • Promote prevention of stroke
  • Create awareness of Stroke Recovery Association of British Columbia
  • Provide worldwide website resources for stroke survivors and their caregivers

For more information about our proposal, visit our page www.heartofstroke.com/strokerecoverybc.  With your vote, our program could help educate thousands of Canadians about the serious risk of stroke due to AF.

You can vote once a day, everyday until the contest closes on June 22, 2011. It takes only a minute and your support may help many in your community.

  • Atrial fibrillation or an irregular heartbeat affects up to 250,000 Canadians.
  • People with AF are at least five times more at risk of stroke than those without the condition.1
  • After the age of 55, the incidence of AF doubles with each decade of life and after the age of 60, one-third of all strokes are caused by AF.1
  • Disabilities from an AF-related stroke can be significant, including paralysis, loss of speech, and effects on memory and thought processes.
