SRABC | Stroke Recovery Programs & Locations

Programs are offered in a number of communities across BC.

We offer programs in regions across BC to support stroke survivors in the community after they leave hospital.

These stroke recovery programs are usually offered by a local Branch of SRABC, but some are run by the Provincial Association.

We provide a friendly place where stroke survivors, families, friends, and caregivers can get information, support and, of course, hope.

The stroke recovery programs are run by a paid Coordinator.

Programs vary depending on the resources available.

They usually include:

  • Physical Exercises
  • Communication Exercises
  • Social Interaction and Recreation
  • Thinking and Memory Exercises
  • Support for stroke survivors and caregivers
  • Healthy Lifestyle Education
  • Information on Health and Community Resources

There is sometimes a small cost for participants. This cost can be waived in cases of hardship. Contact the Coordinator for details.

Who Can Attend?

Stroke Recovery Programs are for stroke survivors living at home and their caregivers.

Stroke survivors must be capable of participating meaningfully in the program.

Stroke survivors must be independent in feeding, mobility, toileting and personal hygiene or have a caregiver accompany them who can provide the necessary assistance.

If you have any questions regarding the above please contact the Coordinator.

Mall Walking Programs

Recovering from a stroke is a challenging experience for anyone. Keeping fit and social is an important way to empower your patients after a stroke.

NEXT STEPS is a fun, friendly walking group for stroke survivors throughout British Columbia. Participants walk at their own pace and distance in a safe indoor mall, with easy access to washrooms, seating areas and other amenities. Groups meet once a week to keep active, maintain mobility, and socialize with others in the community.
